The Princess of Wales's Annual Christmas Carol Concert Honours Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The sizable congregation will hear a mix of carols, music and readings from stars like award-winning actors.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The central message of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the carol service.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to public life following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Music and Opportunity

Attendees entering the Abbey can listen to talented youth performers aided by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to widen access to musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been helped by the trust, with awards contributing to musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will encompass young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to generate funds for food banks.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been adorned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
