The City of Angels witnessed citywide festivities after the Los Angeles Dodgers clinched a nail-biting seven-game World Series title. Supporters across the globe united with local residents in celebration, marking the first time in 25 years that a team has achieved back-to-back championships.
Local events featured a downtown parade on Monday morning, a ticketed rally at the team's home stadium, and impromptu gatherings across the city.
Online footage depict countless of Angelenos packing downtown streets, many displaying homemade signs and team flags. The team was seen riding high on a open-top bus through the crowds, hoisting the Commissioner’s trophy proudly.
“I’m already thinking about the next championship we’re going to achieve this,” Shohei Ohtani remarked through an interpreter.
The parade route concluded at Dodger Stadium, where the players emerged to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard spinning music and the artist driving a Pacific blue vintage Cadillac around the field.
Festivities started prior to the parade, with Dodgers fans setting off flares in the roads of the city center on the previous evening.
The World Series MVP, awarded the World Series’ Most Valuable Player, commented directly about the victory.
“Losing is not an option,” Yamamoto stated. “I adore this team. I love Los Angeles.”
In contrast, the team owner was met with a less warm welcome at the rally. Video footage from the gathering seem to depict him walking onstage to a mix of applause and jeers, with jeers interrupting his address.
The World Series acted as a bright spot in what has been a trying year for the city. An estimated 225,000 people showed up to the Dodgers’ victory parade last year, and according to Dodgers player one athlete, fans this year demonstrated equal or greater support.
“It seems it’s almost double from last year,” he remarked. “These fans are crazy. It’s truly amazing to be a involved in this.”
